New Insurance Program Helps Public Power Utilities Recover Costs of Assets Damaged by Automobiles

Hometown Connections – September 25, 2017

An exclusive insurance program developed for public power by Hometown Connections and Wortham Power Gen Insurance speeds up the process and improves recovery rates for assets damaged by automobiles. The Property Damage Recovery Program provides the personnel and expertise to pursue these recoveries.

Frequently, utilities must repair or replace poles, traffic lights, and other fixed assets that are damaged when hit by automobiles. But utility personnel may not have time or manpower to pursue these recoveries on their own. This service recovers costs from the automobile insurance of the drivers at fault. There are no upfront costs to the utility. If the recovery is successful, the service provider keeps 20% of the recovered funds.

Since 2015, participating utilities have recovered more than $1 million in total. The average recovery rate is 96%, and the average annual recovery equates to $4.31 per meter.

Members of the American Public Power Association Can Expect:

  • Exceptional Recovery Results
  • Outstanding Customer Service
  • Specialization in Public Power Property Recovery
  • No upfront Fees. Fees Only if Recovery Successful
